The Humanly team started working in 2017 on a new program to help people who were unhoused. The catalyst moment was when several members of our group were walking in downtown Chicago. As we passed an unhoused person asking for help, and none of us had cash, an observation was made: "wouldn't it be great if we could help these people with a credit card?"
This discussion turned into a concerted effort among the group to explore how we could help the plight of the unhoused population. Soon other people joined the group because of the similar interest to see a real impact made in improving the ability of unhoused people to get back on their feet.
After a lot of research and exploratory work, Humanly was created — a crowdfunding source that helps unhoused people with both short-term and long-term needs, enhances the efforts of existing social services organizations already engaged in this arena, and gives everyday folks like you and me an efficient and effective way to contribute.
